Susanna Wallis
Is a mixed media artist based in Barking, UK & Bajardo, Italy.
I am an Illustrator, textile artist and maker. In recent years I have made what is a lifelong passion into professional practice and come from a non-art school background. My work is approachable and uncomplicated, mostly figurative but I am exploring and developing some abstract pieces. I have a strong craft-based skill set but picked up my pencils again when working for a community arts project in which I rediscovered my drawing ability. In recent illustration work, I have been focused on local influences of heritage, social commentary and relevance, culture and regeneration. These themes strongly influence and give impetus for further exploration and work. The outcome of my recent illustration work has resulted in a variety of locally-based commissions from individuals, as well as the private and public sector. I also find fulfilment in working with people of all ages, in public engagement and workshops, in a process of bringing art and creativity into daily life and regular surroundings.
